Ryan is right. A Smart Controller is the best way to save water on a sprinkler system. All of the main irrigation system manufacturers now have smart controllers out on the market. Rain Bird, Hunter, Irritrol and Weathermatic are the industry leaders in this market.

Of them all, I prefer the Rain Bird ESP-SMT Smart Controller. It's the newest and most advanced of all of them. Our company was involved in the beta-testing of these units before they were released earlier this year. And since their release, we've installed more of these controllers than anyone in our state. I love these controllers because they have more options and better methods of calculating E.T. than the other smart controllers on the market.

I've been installing, programming and using these controllers for 14 months now. I can't say enough good about them. It's what I use at my own home too. I haven't had to touch the thing all year It automatically increases and decreases watering on each zone just based on current weather conditions. And my water bill this summer was a good 35% less than previous years.

Or you can invest in a "Smart Sprinkler Controller" with a weather sensor. No need to run down to the garage at 5am, just let the system automatically adjust based on the current conditions.
