Did you know the food we buy at the supermarket travels an average of 1,500 miles to get there!? It’s trucked across the country, hauled in freighter ships over oceans, and flown around the world. I wonder what the carbon footprint is of that apple you are about to eat?
So Tip #3 is: Eat and buy locally grown organic foods!

Here are some easy ways to do this:
- Frequent and shop at weekly farmers markets. Localharvest.org is a great resource to find farmers and harvests in your community. Use Google to search for farmers markets in your area. They often take place every week.
- Shop at organic food markets that insist on purchasing from local farms. If you are unsure where the produce in the store is grown, ask the employees.
- Buy fruits and vegetables that are in season in your area. If they are in season, chances are they are local, as it is cheaper for local farmers to sell to the stores around them. What’s in season?
- Visit Just Eat Food for recipe ideas!
See, that was easy!
