Tip #6 – Save Electricity by Using Timers

Posted By: ryan 409 views No Comment

Forgetting to turn the light off in the room we just left…not only an easy thing to do, but also the cause of a lot of wasted energy. An easy solution: leverage technology (even if it is low-tech) to help save electricity by installing timer switches on the rooms that you often enter and leave often.

Here are a couple different styles of timer switches you can use. Both of them are an easy DIY project!

This switch style, made my Leviton and available through Amazon is a digital timer that can automatically shut off the lights anywhere from 2 minutes to 15 minutes, depending on the button you push. This is a very cool option that would look sleek and attractive on a wall.

Here is another option that uses a manual timer knob.

If you are looking for even more automation, or if you have a room where you have a lot of in and out traffic, you could use a motion sensor. This style connects in between you standard bulb socket and your light-bulb.You can buy this one on Amazon as well.
